Dover Cheer Christmas Extravaganza
The Dover Christmas Extravaganza was on Saturday 15th December 2007 from
10am to 4pm. Christmas cheer came to Dover early with festivities all around also including a freak snow storm in the middle
of the pedestrian precinct – Biggin Street, which even the weather broadcasters did not predict...Oh, OK it was a snow
machine!
Displays of all kinds of Christmas jollity
spread out through the town from the Kent Timewarp Car and Costume Group with their gleaming cars outside of the town hall
down to Father Christmas and his reindeer's in Dover's Market Square, having a well earned break before their round the world
tour on Christmas Eve!
Varieties
of displays also included the Dover Firemen raising money for local charities, genetically improved tall stilt-walking (!)
reindeer's striking a pose for a number of pictures, living Ice Sculptures surveying the Christmas scene and also juggling
Elves – sent in from the National Elf Service! (boom boom!).
The
Kent Timewarp Car and Costume Group were in the Christmas spirit dressed as characters from the North Pole. Amongst them were
Father Christmas himself, Mrs Santa, a little Elf and Mrs Sexy Santa...acted out by Trevor Foster! Cars on display included
two Morris Minors, a 1936 Austin, a Mini and also a classic Beetle with Ian and Kim dressed in 1970's regalia doing a great
job looking like characters from 'Life on Mars'.
There
was happiness amongst all who came down and also hundreds of mince pies (supplied by Dover Age Concern) given out free to
hungry shoppers doing their last minute Christmas dash! Not just mince pies were given to shoppers, sweets galore were distributed
amongst festive Dovorians by the Kent Timewarp group raising money for the Dover and Deal Volunteering Centre.
Overall
an astonishing £35 was raised by the Kent Timewarp Car and Costume Group for the Dover and Deal Volunteering Centre and combined
with the year's fundraising efforts the group has raised a staggering £70 to help with the projects by the Volunteering Centre.
We would like to thank everyone for your support and donations and look forward to raising more money for the Centre during
2008!
Our
sweets were kindly donated by local businesses in Dover including the Iceland's branch on the High Street, Tesco's Extra in
Whitfield and Somerfield just off Castle Street. We would like to say a HUGE thanks to them for their support.
