LONDON ROAD COMMUNITY FORUM DAY
JULY 14TH 2007
FULL REPORT FROM DOVER SOUL WEBSITE
The London Road Community Forum Open Day took place on the Saturday July 14th 2007,
at the Barton School playing field off Cherry Tree Avenue/ Barton Road in the Buckland area of the town.
The event was organised by Forum chairman Terry Nunn who lives in London Road as a awareness
day for both the forum and other local groups and organisations.
Among those present at the event were the Kent Timewarp Car and Costume Group, Castle
Forum, Dover Lions Club, Dover Loyalty Card Scheme and the Dover Paint Store of London Road to name a few.
Also present was the Dover Mercury editor Graham Tutthill manning a stool.
Events happening throughout the day included music supplied by Terry Nunn, Jive dancing
to music by Dover Jive Club who performed several amazing dances to rock tunes of the 50s and 60s. Also present was the Kent
Timewarp Car and Costume Group giving us an insight into the fashions of the 50s, 60s and other historical periods as well
as a collection of a variety of vintage and classic cars including two 1960s Morris Minors, a 1974 mini and a car which was
like a hot rod cross and sold on the day surprisingly!! Even more surprising was that the new owner forgot it was there and
it was locked into the field being later retrieved....
It is believed the forum day might be combined with other events next year to create
a bigger event promoting more of the worthwhile causes in Dover. Numerous kids were also happy due to the free facepainting
and the ice creams kindly on sale from Solley's Farms of Ripple, and which were tasty too!!
An enjoyable day out which was filmed by Mike McFarnell who has kindly allowed us to
use his film which you can watch below. Please click to activate and then click again to watch the enjoyable event.
Well done goes to Terry Nunn, all the team, and those who attended.
